Overview
Pirate Ship is a Early Hardmode boss in Terraria, rendered as a composite of 2 NPC segments. This guide pulls together the official spawn rules, drop table, and progression context so you can decide when to attempt the fight and what to bring.
How to summon
Appears as a mini-boss during a Pirate Invasion. Trigger the invasion with a Pirate Map (dropped by Hardmode ocean enemies) or wait for a random Hardmode invasion.

Fight composition
Pirate Ship is composed of 2 pieces (Flying Dutchman, Dutchman Cannon). Plan your weapon choice around hitting all parts — piercing weapons or wide AoE tend to outperform single-target damage.
When to fight
Recommended progression slot: Early Hardmode. You should have full gear from the previous tier before attempting this fight, including a top-tier prefix on your weapon (see the item page → Best prefixes).
What to bring, by class
Top-damage Early Hardmode-tier weapons from the registry for each class — open any item for full DPS, use-time and prefix data.
Arena and prep
A prepared arena wins most of the fight before it starts:
- Lay 2–3 long wooden-platform rows for vertical dodging room.
- Drop a Campfire and Heart Lantern (and a Honey pool) for passive regen.
- Set up the buff stations for your class — Ammo Box, Crystal Ball, Bewitching Table, Sharpening Station.
- Pre-buff with the strongest potions you can craft: Ironskin, Regeneration, Endurance, plus a class-damage potion.
- Reforge your main weapon to Menacing (offense) or Warding (survival) before pulling the boss.
After the fight
Clearing Pirate Ship typically opens the Mech tier (post-WoF) tier — new gear, ores and enemies come into reach. Next targets: The Twins, The Destroyer, Skeletron Prime. See the progression checklist for the full order.
